Memories Project Mission Statement |
MISSION STATEMENT
Remember. Thank. Honour. Value. Teach.
The mission of the Veterans’ Memories
Project is to recognize and honour the veterans who
were responsible for securing the rights and freedoms enjoyed by all
Canadians and to ensure that current and future generations are educated
about the nature of warfare and encouraged to choose
non-violent means of conflict resolution at every
level of social interaction.
GOALS
- to sensitize the youth
of today to the realities of warfare and to encourage anti-violent conflict
resolution;
- to educate youth on the
role of Veterans in securing the rights and freedoms that they enjoy;
- to preserve Veterans’
memories of war times for historical record;
- to promote recognition
and honouring of local Veterans;
- to support continued
remembrance and honouring of deceased Veterans.
WE VALUE
- learning from history
and maintaining an historical archive;
- demonstrating respect
for the experience, wisdom and sacrifices of previous generations;
- the future contributions
to society of present generations;
- peaceful means of
conflict resolution.
WE ENVISION
- a population composed of
individuals who are sensitized to the actual effects of violent conflict upon
others and well informed about the true nature and consequences of warfare;
- a community that
respects and honours the Veterans who were responsible for securing the
rights and freedoms that we enjoy and the quality of life that we often take
for granted;
- a society that has
learned the valuable lessons of the past and does not resort to violent means
of conflict resolution.
